About
Owner and Chef Somer Sivrioglu brings a rich Turkish heritage and a wealth of knowledge to the table at Efendy.
Spending the first 25 years of his life in Turkey, where his mother was a successful restaurant consultant, Chef Sivrioglu grew up around the vibrancy of urban Turkish cuisine. It is these early culinary experiences, combined with his many years in the restaurant and hospitality industry, that gave Chef Sivrioglu the inspiration behind Efendy Restaurant.
He is an advocate of real Turkish Cuisine in Australia and share his experiences in his weekly TV show, Somer’in Mutfagi ( Somer’s Kitchen) on Turkish cable TV, UBI as well as on SBS radio Turkish channel program ” Lezzete Yolculuk” Journey to Taste every Saturday and a weekly column at leading Turkish community newspaper, Yeni Vatan
Staying true to the authenticity of his vision, Chef Sivrioglu travels back to Istanbul, Turkey (European Capital of Culture 2010), regularly to ensure Efendy reflects the latest trends and stays true to contemporary Turkish cuisine. Additionally, the Efendy kitchen team is entirely Turkish, with each member representing a different culinary region. The Efendy experience is complete with genuine Turkish hospitality – Chef Sivrioglu’s wife Asli and brother-in-law, Fatih Kulle, manage the Efendy floor team, and all the Efendy staff display the charm, attention to detail and warmth typical of the Turkish culture. Such hospitality, coupled with the restaurant’s relaxed and sophisticated ambience, completes the superb culinary experience.

i was just wondering if u could have your pages also written in turkish cause i am doing a assigment on your restraunt and it has to be said in turkish and it would be good if all your information was also written in turkish.
Dear Yasemin,
I would love to but that would take a lot of time that I don’t have in between cooking, running a restaurant, blogging and parenting. But i am happy to assist in your Turkish assignment if you call me at the restaurant.
Regards,
Somer
Hi Somer,
I have just returned from a trip to Turkey where I fell in love with the cuisine. I came across your site as I am searching for recipes to make at home – on the more authentic side, and am very impressed with your blog. Efendy is now absolutely on my to do list next time I am in Sydney (I’m living in Perth).
Would you have any suggestions (apart from your recipes on this site) for the aspiring cook – e.g. Turkish cookbooks or other resources?
Regards,
Chris
Hi somer! Do you have any plans on publishing a cookbook? I would love to read how you make a lot of the things on your menu. If you could post the recipie for your salad with pear and rucola on yr blog, I would love to make it at home. In particular, the dressing was very tasty.
Hi Bella, Thank you for your comments. i will post our special Efendy Salad soon.
Regards,
Somer
